The European Union (EU) again does relatively poorly in this area, also without any field-leading institutions and with only Germany entering the top ten of the national rankings. Indeed, this seems to be an area where Asian countries excel compared to their European and American counterparts, with all the best institutions being based in Asia.

In global research into hydrogen and ammonia for power, again China leads by an extremely comfortable margin. Apart from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, virtually all the field-leading institutions are based in China, with the United States (US) having zero presence in the institution rankings. And again, China claims over half of all undergraduate talent in the field, with substantial inflows at the employment level that make up for around half of its losses at the undergraduate to postgraduate transition.
